9 Ways To Support Yourself While Doing EFT | Tapping for Mums

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is a powerful tool for healing and transformation. It can be used to help release any emotions, memories or beliefs that are blocking you from achieving your desired goals, enjoying motherhood or living a joy-filled life. While EFT tapping is incredibly effective, it’s not the only way to support yourself on your healing journey.

In addition to EFT, there are many other complementary tools that can be used to help you on your path, that also supports and soothe your nervous system. I believe you might as well go all in when you make the commitment and investment to improve your life. Here are some of the ways you can support yourself while doing EFT (on your own or with a therapist) or on your healing journey:

1. Journaling
Writing down your thoughts and feelings can be a great way to process them and gain insight into your current situation. Additionally, if you can start to become aware of the stories, beliefs, and narratives you are running in your mind. Be the detective, listen to that critical voice but from a place of curiosity rather than to believe it and do what it says. If you are working with me, it will aid our sessions by helping us to identify the root cause of those beliefs, so we can change them. You can also journal gratitude lists tuning you into the frequency of love and magic on a daily basis!

2. Meditation
Taking some time to sit in silence and be with your thoughts can be incredibly calming and restorative. When done in conjunction with EFT, it can help you to further deepen your understanding of yourself and your emotions. Download the Insight Timer app, or find some guided meditations on YouTube. I have one here you might like; it's a Chakra Nourishing Meditation.

3. Affirmations
Affirmations are simple, yet powerful statements that can help to reprogram your subconscious mind. Creating and repeating affirmations while tapping can help you to create positive changes in your life. Louise Hay, Queen of Affirmations was also a fan of Tapping; you can find lots of them here to inspire you.

4. Visualization
This technique involves creating a mental image of what it looks like to achieve something or have achieved the desired outcome. Visualization is a great way to manifest your goals and can be done as part of EFT. You can create a picture in your mind of something you want and tap while looking at that. Notice any resistance that comes up in your body around it, perhaps tap on the doubt you have about that goal becoming a reality. Try turn your thoughts around to 'maybe this goal could come true', 'maybe I do have what it takes to make this a reality' and then further into the positive 'I choose now to make this my reality' and so on.

5. Movement
Connecting to your body, either through yoga or other forms of physical activity, can help you to release tension and clear emotions. Moving your body while tapping can help further release any stuck energy. Put on your favourite music and have a kitchen disco all to yourself - dance like no one is watching and be intuitive with your movements.

6. Energy Healing + Sound
Having in-person or distant Reiki, Rahanni, IET, Bioenergy, or other forms of energy healing can be extremely supportive and nurturing. These healings are gentle and soothing, helping to release blocked and stuck energy from your energy field. It is also wonderful to feel held and supported for an hour! My favourite distant healers are Kelly Day from Bloom Healing and Sarah Hunt of Peaceful Living

7. Body Work
Body manipulation can also be very releasing. We hold so much tension and stress deep in the fascia of our muscles that massage, Kinesiology, Amatsu, acupuncture, acupressure, osteopathy, cranial sacral, reflexology and many more therapies like this can help your nervous system to relax, release and let go.

8. Essences + Oils
I love working with smells and often have incense burning or essential oil on my wrists and pulse points. "There are countless animal and human clinical studies which show that aromatherapy has a profound impact on the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and can reduce “fight or flight” distress by activating the calming effects of our parasympathetic vagus nerve response" - Psychology Today (full article). Flower Essences are another way to soothe your nervous system. They're believed to contain the vibrational energy of flowers, which can improve negative thoughts and emotions. My favourite essences are Saskia's Flower Essences and if you use the code TAPPING you will get 10% off.

9. Water
Connecting with water is very healing and cleansing. If you can dip your feet into the sea, take a sea swim, create a salt foot spa in the living room, or create a beautiful bath ritual, allowing yourself to be held in water is super healing. Soak up the magnesium and minerals offered by the sea, or add them to your bath for an extra healing boost - along with your favourite crystals and essential oils. It's also really important to drink lots of good quality water.

These are just a few of the ways you can use to support yourself while doing EFT. Taking the time to explore different modalities and find which ones work for you will help create lasting positive change in your life.

Remember, your healing journey is unique to you and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to taking care of yourself. Whatever methods you choose, make sure that they work for you and your needs. With a bit of exploration, you’ll be able to find the best ways to support yourself on your journey with EFT.
