Overwhelm is very common at this time of the year. We have expectations, obligations, a million to-do lists, a desire to make things perfect, lots of emotions, and perhaps grief to manage too. It can be stressful and triggering.

But it's not a fait accompli. You have more control over things than you think and you can plan ahead to make sure you prioritise yourself during the holiday season. You can also use Tapping for Overwhelm to manage your stress levels.

8 Top Tips for Reducing Overwhelm

  1. Take some time to reflect on what’s worked and what hasn’t worked in recent years, and set yourself an intention of how you want to feel and what you want to do this Christmas.
  2. Prioritise what works for you and your immediate family, i.e. not the neighbours or distant relatives!
  3. Only say yes to things you really want to do. If you aren’t sure when someone asks you to do something, then that’s a NO! You should light up with a YES!
  4. Try not to make everything perfect – yes I try to make sure everyone feels special and loved and we all have a great time, but I take the pressure off myself, I cut corners and I don’t spend an absolute fortune. I am not perfect so striving to make Christmas perfect is unachievable and setting myself up for failure.
  5. I use all of my tools – so my go-to tools are Tapping for Overwhelm, Meditation, journaling, and space or time alone (definitely recommend each day getting some time to yourself either in bed, bath or out in nature)
  6. Plan ahead; start making lists now for presents, food, decorations, days out
  7. Communicate clearly what needs doing and divide responsibilities between you and your family (i.e. whoever you can, so you don't have to do it all by yourself!)
  8. Take time out to manage your overwhelm and anxiety – get out for a walk, journal, meditate or tap along with me on this Tapping for Overwhelm video above or here: https://youtu.be/pOv_XPpEelQ

I really hope that you resonate with some of these tips and that you are able to look after yourself over the coming weeks. Remember burnout creeps up on us and the festive holiday pressures often fall to our shoulders, so make sure that you are looking after yourself.

If you feel a bit overwhelmed to tap using your own words to start with then head over to YouTube and check out my channel and find a video you feel drawn to tapping along to. Tap along with my words and over time you can become more confident to swap in your own words and then start to use your own words from the start.
